Absence of home broadband 'affects young people'Young people in rural areas without home broadband are disadvantaged both in their personal and business lives, a report has found. ![]() A report by the Commission for Rural Communities has suggested that this is affecting both personal and business users. Dr Stuart Burgess, rural advocate for the government, said: "On top of this, lack of broadband and mobile phone coverage in many rural areas is hitting young people and businesses alike." He highlighted the fact that broadband has become a central part of youth culture, with cultural phenomena such as social networks and the use of the internet to get help with homework. Dr Burgess called on the government to improve broadband services in rural areas, as well as boosting mobile coverage and working on new ways to deliver employment and training needs to those in rural communities. Earlier this week, Broadband Delivery UK was set up to oversee the rollout of universal broadband throughout the country. Related Stories
