MP for Pendle Andrew Stephenson has praised the work of the government with regard to the rollout of superfast broadband throughout the UK.

He enthused about the widespread project on the same day he visited Superfast Lancashire, Pendle Today reports. This regional connectivity project is set to bring better broadband to around 675,000 Lancashire homes and businesses.

His comments also followed the announcement that one million residential and commercial properties in Britain now have access to the high-speed technology.

Mr Stephenson stated: "At the time of the last general election, less than half of UK premises had access to superfast broadband, but we're already up to 78 per cent under this government."

He added that the government looks to be firmly on track to meet its target of delivering superfast broadband to 95 per cent of premises in the country by 2017, thanks to £1.7 billion being invested in the cause.

However, work is also underway to find a solution to connect the remaining five per cent of communities to the fibre network in the near future.
