Better broadband infrastructure 'needed for Bristol SMEs'
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in South Gloucestershire and Bristol need access to a significantly better broadband infrastructure in order to help them thrive, an MP has suggested.

This is the opinion of Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Sajid Javid, who expressed these views at a meeting of local business owners at Aztec West, Busbyway reports.

Mr Javid explained: "Bristol has a thriving small business community ... with over 400 new business startups in South Gloucestershire in the last few weeks alone.

"It is important that everyone has access to the internet in this modern age and ideally a fibre optic broadband solution."

It is not just fibre broadband that Mr Javid believes is important for business progression in the area, but also an understanding of online services in general, suggesting that the latter can bring a greater 'quality of life' for firms.

The MP also spoke about the importance of cutting so-called red tape for SMEs, as such companies employ more than 50 per cent of the UK's total workforce, contributing hugely to the country's economy.
