With the arrival of superfast broadband in Weston-on-the-Green, Oxfordshire's Better Broadband rollout programme will reach a significant milestone, having connected 10,000 premises to the high-speed technology.

The Oxford Mail reports that new underground cables are set to be installed to deliver the superfast internet service to homes and businesses in the village, which is located near Bicester.

Council Cabinet Member for Business and Customer Services Nick Carter commented: "With one of the most rural counties in the south, it is vital that this work is done, the benefits of which will be felt by all, whether it be families or businesses."

The Better Broadband scheme is being supported by BT, as well as the government-funded programme Broadband Delivery UK.

As part of its latest stage, residential and commercial properties in Weston-on-the-Green should be able to access internet loading speeds of at least 24Mbps.

While 10,000 premises have been connected to the fibre network since the rollout project began last December, it is expected that an extra 65,000 will be added to this over the coming months.
