Broadband frustrations for Crewe residents
Residents in Crewe are concerned about whether or not they will be included in future superfast broadband rollouts.
The Crewe Chronicle has labelled the situation a "nightmare", with schoolchildren and local employees missing out on opportunities and being put at a significant disadvantage compared to others in the country.
For instance, one Chorlton man has not been able to get a promotion at work due to not having access to internet that allows for video conferencing. Another had to drive to a McDonalds restaurant in the town centre and conduct his online meeting using its free Wi-Fi due to his poor connection at home.
In addition, local pupils cannot use the web to its best advantage for research and homework, potentially hindering their progress.
Villager Kevin Beale explained: "We are furious that we have, once again, been overlooked by Cheshire East, Connecting Cheshire and BT when deciding who should get broadband."
Mr Beale has contacted MP Edward Timpson about the matter, who in turn has written to Cheshire East Council and BT to find out what their answers to the current situation are.
