BT allows ISPs to choose exchanges for fibre optic broadband upgradesInternet service providers have been given the opportunity by BT to nominate up to six exchanges each to be upgraded to fibre optic broadband. ![]() ISPs that are signed up to BT Openreach's Generic Ethernet Access product will be able to choose up to six areas each to benefit from new high-speed broadband access. However, the telecoms giant has stipulated that it must be deemed commercially viable for these upgrades to go ahead, meaning providers must guarantee ten per cent of properties covered by the exchange are using fibre optic broadband within a year of the work being finished. Managing director of next-generation access at Openreach David Campbell said: "We've always worked very closely with industry to decide which parts of the country will benefit from fibre broadband enablement."
