BT brings fibre optic broadband to 100,000 Scottish propertiesTens of thousands of homes and businesses in Scotland are able to access up to 40Mb/s broadband, thanks to BT. ![]() Speaking at the Next Generation Roadshow at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, director of BT Scotland Brendan Dick revealed that more than 100,000 homes and businesses in the country are now able to access the service. Parts of Glasgow, Fife, Bothwell and Livingstone, as well as the capital, can now connect to fibre optic cable broadband, offering download speeds of up to 40Mb/s and uploads of up to 10Mb/s. Mr Dick stated it is "great" that so many properties are now able to "reap the benefits" of super-fast broadband, but said more still needs to be done. "All sectors of Scotland's economy need to work together to find ways to bring super-fast broadband to locations where the economics are more challenging," he commented. As well as its projects north of the border, BT has given 76,000 properties in Essex access to fibre optic broadband, thanks in part to work undertaken this summer. Related Stories
