BT fibre broadband launched in Bromsgrove
BT has announced its fibre optic broadband service is available in Worcestershire for the first time.

An exchange covering more than 19,800 homes and businesses in Bromsgrove has been upgraded to receive the technology, with the local improvement work scheduled to be complete in the next few weeks.

The move comes as part of BT's £2.5 billion investment in fibre broadband and will enable properties in the area to take advantage of maximum download speeds of 40Mbps, possibly rising to 60Mbps in the future.

John Dovey, the telecoms giant's regional director for the West Midlands, hailed the news as an "exciting development" for the area.

"As our rollout of super-fast, fibre-based broadband gathers pace, many more customers in other parts of the county can look forward to faster speeds in the pipeline," he added.

The north Worcestershire town of Stourport is also set to get access to the technology by spring 2012, BT confirmed last month.
