The section of BT's website dedicated to providing updates on fibre optic broadband rollouts has been given a revamp.

Residents who live in areas yet to be given access to a superfast service will now be able to view more accurate and up-to-date information relating to their property.

The move has come after the service provider received complaints from some customer, who claim the timescales given regarding when certain locations would receive a connection were not specific enough.

Website visitors can now use a postcode tracker function to receive updates. This gives them a date for their individual area, making it clearer which phase of the rollout covers them.

BT Openreach's Director of Marketing and Communications Rob Lee explained that as well as making the information on the website more specific, there is a need to ensure prospective customers are educated about the benefits of fibre optic connections.

He said: "It should make it easier for consumers and businesses to learn about fibre, what it can do for them and how to get it. It also has links to all of Openreach's communications provider customers offering fibre services."
