BT urged to improve Bradley Stoke broadband
A media commentator has argued that Bradley Stoke should be in line to benefit from BT's current fibre optic broadband rollout.

Editor of the Bradley Stoke Journal Stephen Horton claimed that BT and Virgin Media have both overlooked the South Gloucestershire community in the past.

Older parts of the town already have access to Virgin Media's network, but newer areas have not been fitted with cables, reports BBC Bristol.

Many residents have therefore been forced to sign up with BT, but Bradley Stoke's location between two exchanges means some can only receive download speeds of 512Kb/s.

Mr Horton called on broadband providers to improve the town's infrastructure, commenting: "I would have thought that a densely populated area like ours should represent a sound economic case."

He added the community stands to end up in the final third of the country in which infrastructure improvements are not seen as commercially viable.

BT is looking to make fibre optic broadband available to more than 12 million properties across the UK by 2015.
