Cheshire businesswomen to get £75,000 for better broadband
Businesswomen in Cheshire are to be given a £75,000 boost for better broadband.
Throughout the UK, 20 per cent of all small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are now led by women, but in the north-west, there is a lower than average level of self-employment among this gender (five per cent, compared to an average of 6.2 per cent elsewhere).
In light of this, Connecting Cheshire is investing the significant sum of £75,000 in helping businesswomen in the county to access superfast broadband, which will hopefully encourage more females to start up their own company, by showing them there is support available.
The money is to be awarded to the county from the Women and Broadband Challenge Fund, which was established to help those who are their own boss to improve the way they work by accessing the latest high-speed technology.
Deputy Leader of Cheshire East Council David Brown commented: "We want female entrepreneurs and businesswomen in Cheshire to take advantage of this opportunity and see how they can make the most of new technology."
He added doing so could potentially improve their company's profits and lead to the creation of new jobs, further supporting the local economy.
