Connecting Cheshire rollout reaches halfway point
The Connecting Cheshire superfast broadband rollout project has reached its halfway point, having delivered faster internet to more than 40,000 residential and commercial properties in the county.

Thanks to BT Openreach Engineers and funding from the European Union, Broadband Delivery UK and four local authorities, the high-speed technology has reached premises throughout Warrington, Halton, Cheshire East and Cheshire West.

Over 200 new green roadside cabinets and 400 km of fibre optic cables have been installed to deliver the superfast service to Cheshire premises.

Vice-Chairman of the North West European Regional Development Fund local management committee Sir Howard Bernstein commented: "This programme is already helping local businesses make the most of superfast broadband, improving performance and helping to create and safeguard jobs."

Deputy Leader of Cheshire East Council David Brown added the rollout initiative is on track to meet its target of connecting 96 per cent of homes and businesses in the county to better broadband.
