Could idaq Networks save Sheffield's broadband rollout?
A wireless network could be provided by idaq to fill the broadband gap left by the unsuccessful Digital Region project.
Attercliffe-based idaq Networks believes it could deliver a wireless broadband service to the majority of the area, providing residents and businesses with similar speeds to a fibre connection, the Sheffield Telegraph reports.
It also claims it could roll out the high-speed technology throughout the city in just ten days, compared to the 45 days or so it can take for a fibre network to be installed.
Head of Sales and Marketing at idaq Mike Hague explained to the newspaper: "The launch of our 'icnos' uncontended wireless circuits is designed to plug several holes in [the] marketplace."
The firm has felt the need to offer its services after it was announced the South Yorkshire Digital Region network would come to an end on 14 August 2014, after just 3,000 customers signed up to receive superfast broadband from it.
However, the switch off means many city firms would be left with inadequate internet connections as there has been no alternative available.
