Councillor praises arrival of superfast broadband in Weardale
Work is underway to bring superfast broadband to Weardale residents.
The high-speed service is being delivered to the area by engineers from network provider BT's Openreach project, with those based in the Tow Law area to be first to benefit from an improved internet connection.
Ms Brown, Durham County Council's Portfolio Holder for Corporate Services, commented: "This is fantastic news for those people living and working in Weardale."
Following the rollout in Tow Law, residential and commercial properties in Frosterley, Wearhead, Stanhope, Eastgate and Wolsingham will also be able to receive better broadband.
Overall, more than 5,000 local premises will be connected to the superfast service during early 2015.
However, before residents will be able to upgrade their internet, significant engineering work is needed at the Frosterley BT exchange, where the most extensive alterations will be made since it was upgraded from analogue to digital almost 30 years ago.
Approximately 60 km of fibre cable-carrying ducts will need to be laid underground, with these set to hold around 7,000 km of wires.
