Derbyshire 'one step closer to super-fast broadband'
Derbyshire has moved one step closer to gaining new super-fast broadband services, as the county has been given approval to go forward.

The Digital Derbyshire programme will see at least £14.78 million invested in the region, the Derbyshire Times reports.

It is hoped that this cash injection will deliver the biggest ever broadband improvement for the county by 2015.

Permission has been granted to move ahead to the procurement phase - and the initiative forms a part of the government's Broadband Development UK scheme.

Councillor Kevin Parkinson - who is the Derbyshire County Council cabinet member for regeneration - said that this kind of backing is fantastic news for residents and local businesses alike.

"We recognise their frustrations with no connectivity and slow speeds and that is why we have made it a priority to drive improvements in areas which have been left behind," he commented, adding that these areas are unattractive to commercial investors.
