Durham residents benefit from fibre rollout
Just 12 months after the launch of the first fibre broadband cabinet in Durham, more than 36,000 homes and businesses in the area are now benefiting from improved superfast connectivity.

Delivered through BT's Openreach division, more than 200 km of optical fibre cabling has now been laid across the county, while 235 new fibre broadband cabinets have been installed on streets throughout the area.

In total, more than £24 million has been invested in improved access to broadband services across County Durham in the last year, with this significant level of funding now providing real benefits to local communities.

BT North East Regional Partnership Director Simon Roberson said: "Delivering a project of this size is never easy, but our engineers have been working tirelessly to keep everything on track and on time."

He added that for many people, access to broadband connectivity is no longer seen as a luxury but is essential to the smooth running of their home and business lives.
