Govt broadband investment 'to prevent widening of digital divide'Broadband investment by the government will help to reduce the risk a widening digital divide, it has been claimed. ![]() Speaking following the start of work on the rollout of Britain's next-generation broadband network, Digital Britain minister Stephen Timms: "We do not want to risk the digital gap widening, which is why we have put a team of experts in place to ensure further investment is targeted at those people without adequate access." Government body Broadband Delivery UK will start working with leading broadband providers such as BT and Virgin Media to deliver the Universal Service Commitment.
