Govt launches Broadband Delivery UK to oversee universal internet rolloutThe government division which will be in charge of achieving the Digital Britain report pledge to provide universal internet access has been set up. ![]() Broadband Delivery UK is responsible for orchestrating the effort to deliver a 2Mbps connection to every household in the country in the next two years. Stephen Timms, minister for Digital Britain, added that the country cannot afford to let the digital gap widen and called for efforts to be made to address this. He said: "Taking advantage of new technologies like next generation broadband is vital to the growth of the UK's economy and it's important that all homes and businesses can access the opportunities faster speeds bring." Mr Timms added that government intervention is essential if rural areas and less well-off communities were to reap the benefits that home broadband provides. A recent report from the Wales Rural Observatory claimed that home broadband is essential for the development of rural Wales, identifying this as one reason many people were moving away from these regions.
