Home broadband 'essential for older people'Older people need home broadband if they are to have their full human rights, a Citizens Online representative has said. ![]() Dr Gail Bradbrook, lead consultant for Digitopian at Citizens Online, has described the ability to access the internet as "important". Home broadband allows people to access the cultural materials, communication and education resources that are guaranteed in the human rights declaration, she said. She stated that it is impossible to access much of these without the technology and ability to use it. Dr Bradbrook added: "It's like anything, the equipment has to be right for them, and the learning experience has to be well paced." She said her organisation has continued to push for corporations to do more to develop software and services that will help older people use broadband and computers. Recent research by Informa Telecoms and Media has stated that the number of fixed-broadband subscriptions in 2009 grew to over 480 million worldwide. Related Stories
