Home broadband 'essential for rural Wales'Deep rural Welsh households are experiencing a number of areas of concern, including their poor access to broadband. ![]() The Wales Rural Observatory chose this as one of its four areas of concern for this area of Britain, suggesting that the difficulty accessing an internet connection could be one of the reasons that younger people move away from rural communities, the BBC has reported. In addition to broadband, other problems identified in the report were public transport, house prices and access to services. A spokesman for the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales called on the Welsh Assembly Government to take steps to help these communities tackle these issues and access broadband. He said: "We would emphasise that deep rural communities should have exactly the same access and level of services as other places in Wales." Providing broadband to more isolated areas could lead to a big rise in ecommerce sales, new research has pointed out. Figures published by the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising have predicted that this type of retailer could generate an additional £1.4 billion if universal broadband is rolled out.
