Home broadband 'helps people make the most of opportunities'To get the most out of their opportunities, people need to roll out home broadband, an expert has asserted. ![]() Rosie Winterton, minister for regional economic coordination, has claimed that this is essential for the future prosperity of the UK's most disadvantaged communities. She highlighted the importance of the government collaborating well at a regional level in order to achieve these goals in the most effective way possible. The Digital Region strategy's effectiveness in the South Yorkshire area was one key example which she highlighted. Ms Winterton stated: "I am pleased to see that this research recognises the great contribution that Yorkshire Forward's Digital Region strategy will make in safeguarding the future of South Yorkshire." The importance of home broadband for the elderly was recently emphasised by Dr Gail Bradbrook, lead consultant for Digitopian at Citizens Online. She said that home broadband allows people to access cultural materials, as well as communication and education resources that are essential in modern life. Related Stories
