Hopes for better broadband in rural Cornwall
Residents and businesses based in the more rural parts of Cornwall are remaining hopeful they will be able to receive a high-speed broadband connection in the near future.

The Superfast Cornwall rollout programme has been delivering the technology to premises throughout the county, but it is due to finish its work next year, when 95 per cent of the area is expected to be connected.

However, there is a possibility the initiative could be extended, enabling the remainder of residential and commercial properties to gain access to the superfast service, as many communities currently experience completely inadequate internet loading speeds.

For instance, people based in Tregeare, St Clether, Laneast and Badgall can have connections as slow as 0.2Mbps, which can make online tasks somewhat impossible.

Speaking at a public meeting, Development Director of Superfast Cornwall Nigel Ashcroft stated: "We are doing everything we can to bring these areas into the programme and we will have an indication if we are successful over the next four to six weeks."

He added that if these communities are not covered by the current rollout project, additional plans will be brought in to ensure more rural homes and businesses can gain access to superfast broadband.
