Internet boss apologises for South Yorkshire broadband switch-off
Residents and businesses cut off from the internet after the Digital Region fibre broadband network was shut down last month have received an apology from an internet firm boss.

Digital Region was a £100 million connectivity project intended to deliver the high-speed technology to premises throughout South Yorkshire, but a decision was made to cancel the service after it began to lose money.

Speaking to local publication the Star, Head of Origin Broadband Oliver Bryssau stated: "I apologise unreservedly to customers who have been without service. We are doing the best we can. Be patient while we are trying to connect you."

He added "everything humanly possible" had been done to try to prevent this from happening and staff were working extra hours to help to reconnect people as soon as possible.

When it was first announced that Digital Region would be shutting down, Origin Broadband intended to build its own network, but these plans did not come to fruition in time for the switch-off.
