Kent County Council announces Superfast Broadband Pilot Fund
Rural communities in Kent are able to bid for their area to receive faster broadband speeds as a result of a new initiative from the county council.

The body has set £1.5 million aside for its new Superfast Broadband Pilot Fund, which is designed to help regions of Kent currently suffering from slow speeds.

Under the plans, local authorities, parish councils and community groups will be able to apply for funding of up to £100,000.

Kevin Lynes, Kent County Council cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: "Successful bids will be able to make a real difference to local people and change their quality of life.

"It will also bring a tangible economic benefit by helping businesses run in rural areas."

Applications for the scheme have to be received by April 14th, with the council set to announce the first five areas to be allocated the money in the middle of May.
