Lack of superfast broadband puts Penzance firms at 'disadvantage'
Penzance town centre has not yet received an upgrade to fibre broadband under either BT's nationwide rollout or the Superfast Cornwall programme, putting local firms at a significant disadvantage when compared to others in the UK.

This is the opinion of Councillors and business owners in the area, with an anonymous local entrepreneur telling the Cornishman that not having access to the latest high-speed internet was a hindrance to his company.

He stated: "It means that it's not worth investing in the website technology that is being used by my competitors."

Many of the communities surrounding the town centre can now access better broadband thanks to Superfast Cornwall, but with central businesses still not connected to the fibre network, this is a serious concern for many with regard to progress and competing with firms based elsewhere in the county and across the rest of the UK.

People working in Chapel Street reported seeing cables being laid close to their businesses, but are frustrated they may not be able to access superfast broadband until March next year.
