LTE mobile broadband take-up to reach 371m by 2015, report claims
Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband users will total some 371 million in four years' time, a new report has forecast.

The study suggests that a broader and more advanced range of devices able to embrace the technology will hit the market in 2011.

IDATE, which aims to provide market analysis of trends and take-up in the industry, also said investment in deployment for the next seven years is likely to hit €335 million (£280.9 million).

Tablet computers, broadband dongles, laptops and routers will be created in "great" numbers this year in order to provide LTE connectivity, but the company pointed out innovative services will be necessary for operators to maximise the potential of the technology and ensure they can provide good service.

Earlier this week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion announced its intention to launch two 4G PlayBook devices later in the year.

The tablet computers will support LTE and HSPA+ wireless networks.
