MP welcomes 'superfast broadband boost'
An MP has welcomed an announcement that Cambridge will receive an extra £910,000 in funding for its fibre optic broadband scheme.

Sir Jim Paice, MP for South East Cambridgeshire, argued that the investment will help the region to access new economic opportunities and will improve the lives of thousands of his constituents.

"This latest investment in rural communities is vital to install the infrastructure needed to give fast, reliable services across south-east Cambridgeshire," he added.

Cambridge has become a key area of growth for the government thanks to its digital economy and large skilled workforce, but some rural areas near the city have struggled to keep pace in terms of fibre optic broadband access, reports ELY-News.

But politicians in the region are now optimistic change is on the way.

Councillor Ian Bates, Cambridgeshire County Council's cabinet member for growth and planning, said the county is aiming to become one of the best connected in the UK by the end of 2015.
