North Lincolnshire given broadband boost
Around 4,000 homes and businesses in North Lincolnshire will be given a broadband boost after a £2.4 million cash injection was agreed.

Some 31,000 premises in North Lincolnshire are expected to receive fibre optic broadband by June 2015, but progress in some areas has been slow.

Councillor Neil Poole, Cabinet Member for Policy and Resources at North Lincolnshire Council, told the Doncaster Free Press: "Having superfast broadband means a great deal to people, not least businesses where they will see real benefits that could enhance their business prospects and help them improve and develop further."

Under a government agreement, all funding for broadband expansion provided by Whitehall must be matched by local councils, but North Lincolnshire Council is hoping for European assistance in raising £1.2 million.

The EU has previously been keen to sanction monetary stimuli for broadband projects as it looks to make rural areas more competitive.
