Oliver Letwin MP explores BT fibre broadband rollout
BT has given West Dorset MP Oliver Letwin a first-hand look at the inner workings of its fibre optic broadband rollout in the south-west county.

Under its £2.5 billion commercial super-fast broadband deployment, the telecoms giant is planning to bring the technology within reach of approximately 247,000 homes and businesses across Dorset by spring 2014.

As the programme continues, Mr Letwin met with a team from BT to take a look at one of the first fibre-enabled street cabinets in Dorchester, reports the Dorset Echo. The cabinet could make next-generation speeds available to as many as 9,700 properties in the county town.

Jon Reynolds, BT's regional director for the south-west, said the company is "very pleased" that Mr Letwin was able to take a look at its efforts towards rolling out faster internet connectivity.

"Local people may have noticed our green street cabinets being installed around the town," he added. "This everyday street furniture is where the magic happens."
