ONS finds 9 in 10 firms have business broadband
New research has found nine in ten UK companies have a business broadband connection.

The figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed 91 per cent of firms had access to the web in 2009, with 87 per cent using a broadband connection to get online.

Some 36.8 per cent used mobile broadband to browse the internet, send and receive emails and carry out other web-based tasks, while 6.8 million employees included in the survey were able to get online from their workplace.

Businesses with ten or more members of staff were included in the study, which was conducted to look into the use of ecommerce and ICT by firms across the country.

Earlier this month, newly-launched Be Broadband subsidiary Be Wholesale revealed almost three-quarters of businesses think they would be more competitive if they had a faster and more reliable internet connection.

Two-thirds of respondents believed poor broadband service is having a negative impact on the UK economy.
