Rochdale enjoys superfast broadband
Rochdale residents set to benefit from superfast broadband.
The latest extension of broadband services in Rochdale has been rolled out.
Around 900 businesses and homes in the region will benefit from the new high-speed connection following investment under the £15 million Get Digital Faster programme, reports Rochdale Online.
A total of 12 fibre broadband cabinets have become operational across the Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton areas and will increase access for a number of customers.
It is expected that within the next 12 months, a further 36 cabinets will be installed to help provide high-speed fibre connections to around 3,300 residential and business addresses.
Under the new service, users can expect download speeds of up to 80 Mbps and uploads speeds of around 20 Mbps.
The Get Digital Faster partnership involves Rochdale Council and BT and is aimed at bringing the benefits of fibre broadband to the region. It is hoped it will have a positive impact on the local economy as businesses become able to use various online services to improve their efficiency and customer interaction.
Since being launched in June 2014, the Get Digital Faster programme has expanded fibre broadband to over 18,000 homes and businesses in the Greater Manchester area.
