Rural Dorset residents urged to speak up on faster broadband
People living in the most remote areas of Dorset have been told to contact the council if they want super-fast broadband.
The local authority is leveraging £19 million of public funds to deliver broadband with speeds of more than 24Mbps to 95 per cent of local properties.
However, premises in the most remote locations are set to miss out on access to the technology. Lorna Jenkin, chairman of the tourism and economic development committee at Lyme Regis Town Council, explained that a map has been published highlighting areas that will not be included in the next-generation (NG) broadband rollout.
She was quoted by the Bridport News as saying: "The message is that those outside the NG scheme wishing to get a better broadband service must tell the county's broadband team or they may be overlooked."
Without the publicly funded scheme, estimates suggest that as many as 87,000 properties across Dorset would be left without super-fast broadband connectivity.
