Scottish councillors demand broadband support
Cross-party councillors in a Scottish town have joined forces to urge residents and businesses to get behind a push for super-fast broadband.

Conservative Gillian Owen, Liberal Democrat Isobel Davidson and SNP councillors Richard Thomson and Rob Merson, all representatives of Ellon and District in Aberdeenshire, are calling for people to complete a survey that aims to assess current levels of broadband provision.

The call comes in the wake of last week's announcement from BT that Ellon and Turriff would be included in the telecoms giant's latest round of fibre optic broadband upgrades, reports the Ellon Times.

In a joint statement, the councillors said there is a need to ensure that fast broadband is rolled out to as many communities as possible, regardless of BT's investment.

"By taking part in this postcard survey, local residents can help to demonstrate the level of demand which exists for better broadband," they explained.

They added that the survey would help the council make the case for faster local broadband "as strongly as possible".
