SES and BeyonDSL have announced a new tie-up that will see them offer satellite broadband services to customers in the UK and Ireland under the 'Satellite Internet' brand.

Delivering downstream speeds of up to 20Mbps, the service uses Ka-band capacity on the ASTRA 2F satellite, with end user terminals provided by Gilat Satellite Technologies.

Patrick Biewer, managing director of SES Broadband Services, said the company is delighted to be teaming up with its long-term partner BeyonDSL to extend high-speed satellite internet access to the UK and Ireland.

"We are convinced that our new Ka-band solution presents a great alternative to users who do not have access to terrestrial broadband offers," he commented.

BeyonDSL's managing director Mike Locke described the launch of the service as another milestone in the provider's continuing mission to offer fast and competitive connectivity.

He added that both companies involved in the deal are committed to the further development of satellite broadband for customers with little or no access to the "indispensable technology".
