Attempts to create a so-called Tech City in East London have been described as a "national embarrassment" by MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch Meg Hillier - but one firm is leading the way in terms of fibre optic broadband.

The Hackney Citizen reports that Optimity is helping to remove many of the issues local businesses are facing when it comes to connecting to the fibre network, as it can take significant amounts of time for roads to be dug up and delivery cables to be laid by providers.

However, Optimity works by providing wireless antennae to the roofs of London-based businesses, meaning it can take just a matter of days for a company to be connected to the high-speed technology.

Due to the radio waves used to fuel these connections, internet users can experience loading speeds of up to 1Gbps, which is around 200 times faster than that they would typically be guaranteed with regular broadband.

Founder of Optimity Anthony Impey commented: "This is such an important piece of infrastructure - I'd say even more important than roads and airports, even train lines."
