Super-fast broadband roll-out underway in Surrey
Work has begun on a super-fast broadband connection that would give 15,000 homes in Surrey access to high speeds by September.
Work has now begun on giving 15,000 homes access to super-fast internet services by September, with Pixham village set to be the first destination connected.
The places that would receive the high-speed connections were initially announced by BT in February.
It is estimated that the Surrey economy will be provided with a boost of around £30 million a year as a result of the connection.
This move comes as part of the government's pledge to connect everyone to speeds of at least 2Mbps by 2015, however, the people of Surrey could expect to enjoy download speeds of up to 80 Mbps.
Bill Murphy from BT said the company's engineers have been surveying the area and are now ready to install the cabinets and fibre that will power the super-fast connections.
Surrey County Council's Deputy Leader, Peter Martin commented: "It is vital for all Surrey communities to have fast, reliable internet access so they don't get left behind."
