Superfast broadband arrives in Central Bedfordshire
Residents and businesses based in Central Bedfordshire can now access superfast broadband thanks to a regional rollout programme.

Network provider BT has been working with the UK government and Central Bedfordshire Council to deliver the high-speed technology to the community, with a ceremony taking place last week to mark the upgrade of the first green roadside cabinet in the area, local publication the Advertiser reports.

Representatives from BT and the local council were in attendance to mark the occasion, which signals the start of the first phase of the rollout.

Overall, it is hoped 91 per cent of residential and commercial properties in the region will be connected to the superfast service by the spring of 2016, with 35,000 in Bedford and Milton Keynes set to gain access during the project's initial phase alone.

MP for North-East Bedfordshire Alistair Burt commented: "The government's superfast broadband programme is a really important development, particularly for rural areas."

Benefits of having a connection to the technology include being able to download music and films in just seconds, as well as making it easier for people to work from home more often.
