A TalkTalk blogger has claimed that gaming is starting to appeal to a wider audience.

Writing for the home phone and broadband provider's blog, freelance journalist Duncan Jefferies claimed that advertising campaigns from the likes of Nintendo have helped to bring PC and console games to more people than ever before.

"The company's shrewd marketing campaigns ... featuring a plethora of celebrities and normal-looking humans have made people realise that games are for everyone," Mr Jefferies explained.

Furthermore, he urged casual gamers to give the world of massively multiplayer online games such as World of Warcraft and StarCraft II a try.

He pointed out that some of these titles are available with a one or two-week free trial, meaning there is "really no excuse not to give online gaming a whirl".

Last month, Mr Jefferies observed that Microsoft and Sony are both trying to attract more casual gamers to their brands with the forthcoming launch of new motion control products.
