Broadband in Britain in one of the slowest in the developed world, a new survey has found.

The UK came in 35th for downloading speed and 62nd for uploading, with an average of nearly 8 Mbps and 1 Mbps respectively, according to a new speed test website launched by Ookla, a web-based speed testing and diagnostics firm.

Broadband providers could be concerned that UK broadband speeds are slower than those in Uganda, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and the Ukraine.

The country with the fastest broadband speed was found to be South Korea, with average speeds of nearly 34 Mbps for downloads and 18 Mbps for uploads.

Latvia has the fastest broadband in Europe, with most EU countries filling out the top thirty on the list.

Concerns about Britain's broadband network have recently been raised by industry and consumers.

A study carried out by O2 found that a slow internet connection is people's biggest daily concern.

Meanwhile, the Internet Service Providers' Association warned that more investment is needed to ensure Britain's broadband future
