Virgin Media says ISPs are ripping off broadband subscribersBundle provider Virgin Media has repeated calls for broadband speed advertising to be made clearer. ![]() Executive director of broadband at Virgin Media Jon James noted that consumers are paying for faster and faster services, but in reality they are not able to get the speeds they signed up for. According to Mr James, this situation has come about as a result of misleading advertising from "unscrupulous" ISPs. "I hope other ISPs will quickly follow Virgin Media's lead by disclosing their own monthly performance data so people can make an informed decision about how to spend their money," he remarked. The figures displayed on Virgin Media adverts are calculated by taking the average speeds of 66 per cent of its customers over a 24-hour period. Mr James's comments follow on from Virgin Media chief executive Neil Berkett's call in the Financial Times for other providers to acknowledge the speeds their customers can typically expect to receive.
