Vodafone praises government's broadband investment
Vodafone has responded positively to an announcement from the government that it will continue to invest in improving the UK's broadband coverage in 2014.

The coalition has revealed that it plans to spend around £10 million on bringing superfast broadband access to some of the most rural areas of the country - a sum which has come as part of an investment from six leading insurance companies.

A Vodafone spokesperson told Total Telecom: "The government's decision is a real step in the right direction and signals a willingness to be pragmatic when it comes to rural broadband."

The government has come in for criticism from some who claim it is neglecting the need for superfast speeds in rural spots. But residents are hoping the new investment will see communities connected that are not covered by the nationwide Broadband Delivery UK project.

Vodafone and a number of other mobile operators look set to pitch 4G technology as a viable way of bringing next-generation upgrades to rural properties, after the government claimed it would use some of the investment to "test innovative solutions".
