West Midlands gets access to BT fibre optic broadband
Properties across the West Midlands have been hooked up to BT's fibre optic broadband network in recent weeks.
More than 24,000 homes and business premises in Walsall were hooked up to the high-speed broadband network in June 2010, with over 40,000 more in Fallings Park, Bloxwich and Wednesbury getting access to it last month.
The telecoms giant has now unveiled plans to upgrade its infrastructure in Tettenhall over the next few weeks, with in excess of 11,000 buildings to benefit from the improvements.
It comes as part of BT's plans to extend its fibre optic cable broadband network to around 66 per cent of properties in the UK by 2015, providing the financial climate remains suitable for investment.
"Households and businesses switching to super-fast broadband will soon be experiencing the internet as they have never experienced it before," commented BT's West Midlands regional director John Dovey.
BT recently revealed that it attracted 96,000 new broadband customers in the second quarter of the year.
