Wireless broadband booster to link rural areas
Mobile broadband could be the saviour of rural not-spots after a UK start-up business has launched a new product designed to offer a reliable broadband connection.

The Wireless Broadband Enabler (WiBE) from Deltenna is designed to give people living in rural areas with little or low quality DSL a stable 2Mbps broadband connection via the mobile network.

A self-installed wireless router, the WiBE uses advanced antenna technology to boost signal strength and improve data throughput to 30 times faster than a 3G dongle.

The technology could be one of the answers to the issue that the government is facing in attempting to provide every home in the UK with a minimum 2Mbps broadband connection.

Deltenna chief executive officer Andrew Fox told Rethink Wireless: "There are still millions of people throughout Europe and the US for whom fast broadband is a myth."

The European Commission's Digital Agenda has set the ambitious target of expanding broadband to everyone in the European Union by 2013 by connecting the 30 per cent or so of the continent that is currently without the service.
