Better broadband 'to turn Monmouthshire into digital hub'
Improved broadband connections in the county of Monmouthshire could contribute towards the area becoming something of a digital hub, council officials hope.

The local authority is launching a project entitled iCounty, which entails a strategy designed to put Monmouthshire at the forefront of digital technology, the South Wales Argus reports.

Superfast broadband is not the only innovative service county chiefs wish to bring to homes and businesses in the area, as they also want residents to get involved in making decisions about their local community, using technology such as mobile apps and the cloud.

Leader of the local council Peter Fox explained to the newspaper: "This will have massive benefits for us to engage and reach more through digital technology. It is an imperative part of our future and the future of our communities."

In addition, local children will begin to be taught about computer science and coding from a young age to ensure the county can maintain its digital hub status throughout the future.

Public consultations will be taking place between the council and residents regarding the matter over the coming months.
