Bexhill and Battle on course for super-fast broadband
Bexhill and Battle MP Gregory Barker has said his constituency is on track to benefit from super-fast broadband connectivity.

Speaking to residents in Battle, Mr Barker explained that the EU's decision to approve the UK's next-generation broadband strategy paves the way for East Sussex County Council to focus on delivering its planned infrastructure improvements.

The local authority intends to significantly boost broadband provision in rural communities through the use of public funds, including £10.64 million from the government.

This cash will be used to subsidise deployments by a commercial provider, with the council aiming to deliver speeds of at least 24Mbps to 90 per cent of the county by 2015.

Mr Barker hailed the EU's approval as "great news" for Bexhill and Battle, which will now get the broadband infrastructure they need to "match their aspiration".

"Britain is in a global race and we cannot allow rural areas like Battle, Hooe, Beckley, Roberstbridge, Hurst Green and Herstmonceux, to name just a few, to get left behind because of bad infrastructure," he stressed.
