Broadband funding boost for Worcester communities
The Worcester communities of Claines, Warndon Villages and Diglis are set to benefit from faster broadband connectivity thanks to a £50,000 investment from the city council.

Simon Geraghty, leader of the local authority, said council chiefs are planning to invest "bonus" government cash in a string of vital infrastructure projects, such as upgrading broadband services and improving roads, reports the Worcester News.

The £50,000 funding package will be added to the £11.8 million cash pot that will be used by Worcestershire County Council to bring super-fast broadband to 90 per cent of homes and businesses in the area by the end of 2015.

Worcester City Council has come in for some criticism for the plan to spend £50,000 on its own broadband improvements, rather than leaving the work to the county council.

However, Mr Geraghty defended the move, commenting: "There are areas such as Claines, Warndon Villages and parts of Diglis where people don't realise it but speeds are actually pretty slow."
