BT and Worcs announce provisional locations for superfast broadband
BT and Worcestershire County Council have unveiled the provisional details for a planned rollout of superfast broadband in the county.

The plans include anticipated locations for fibre broadband throughout Worcestershire over the next three years.

Superfast Worcestershire, a £20 million partnership involving the council and BT, said planning and technical survey work will take place over the next nine months and that locations could change in that time.

"We'll then draw up a plan for where the fibre, new ducts, street cabinets and additional underground and overground equipment goes," explained Rob Shakespeare, BT's Senior Project Manager for Superfast Worcestershire.

Under the proposals, high-speed fibre broadband will be rolled out to more than 90 per cent of Worcestershire homes and businesses over 2014 and 2015.

Although the locations are subject to change, both parties say they "remain confident and committed that these ambitious levels will be achieved".

Councillor Simon Geraghty, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member for Economy, Skills and Infrastructure, said the authority remains confident that more than 90 per cent of residents and businesses will receive fibre broadband access over the next three years, although he acknowledged that more specific details are not currently available.
