BT broadband customer base on the rise
BT has continued to grow its subscriber base of broadband customers, the telecoms giant revealed in its financial results for the second quarter of 2010.

Between April and June, the company achieved a net gain of 96,000 new broadband users. This rise helped to take BT's market share for the three-month period to 40 per cent.

Partly as a result of this surge in broadband subscribers, the group managed to generate revenues of more than £5 billion over the quarter, while its adjusted profits before tax rose 17 per cent on the same period in 2009.

Chief executive of the BT Group Ian Livingstone declared the figures to be "acceptable", noting that the company has posted improved financial results while also investing in the future of the business.

"Despite the challenging environment, these financial results underpin our outlook for the full year," Mr Livingstone commented.

Earlier this month, BT revealed it has extended its Total Broadband business promotion until the end of October.
