BT creates more than 1,000 apprentice positions
BT has announced it will create more than 1,000 new apprenticeships across the UK in the coming years.

The majority of the new roles will be in the areas of IT, engineering and technology research but there will also be positions available in business and finance.

Most of those that will be brought onto the programme will be unemployed college or school graduates, with efforts focused on helping people without qualifications to get their foot on the career ladder.

Gavin Patterson, Chief Executive of BT, heralded the news and said his company is doing all it can to help people out of long-term unemployment.

"Through new apprenticeships, graduate training and the Movement to Work programme, we want thousands of young people in Britain to share [our bright] future," he added.

Business Secretary Vince Cable also welcomed the news and commended BT's commitment to reducing unemployment.
