Buckinghamshire County Council tries to ease fibre broadband worries
Buckinghamshire County Council has responded to an accusation from MEP James Elles that there is "very little transparency" in the area regarding fibre broadband.

The authority has confirmed that engineering surveys have begun for a rollout project that aims to bring the next-generation service to 91 per cent of properties during the next three years.

Properties outside areas covered by a fibre cabinet will also be guaranteed a connection with speeds of at least 2Mbps.

The news follows Mr Elles' concerns that a lack of progress in the most rural areas of the county would lead to entrepreneurs choosing other locations to set up businesses.

But Council Leader Martin Tett said: "There's still a gap to plug and if money can be found I would like to aim to increase our target to 95 per cent of premises."

He went on to urge the government to invest further in fibre optic rollouts, adding that a failure to do so could compromise the county's "competitive edge".
